David Alan Mack (* 12. May 1969 ) is an American science fiction - author .

Mack is the author of several novels in the Star Trek - franchise . Among other things, he wrote the New York Times - bestsellers A Time to Heal and A Time to Kill . He played a key role in developing and co-authoring the Star Trek: Vanguard series . He also worked on some of the scripts for Star Trek: Deep Space Nine . In the book series Star Trek: The Next Generation (literary continuation after Nemesis) he introduced Aneta Šmrhová, a member of the on- board crew who is named with the real name of the Czech model Anetta Keys . Outside of Star Trek , he wrote the Wolverine novel Road of Bones .

Mack lives in New York City with his wife Kara .
