David D. Balam is a Canadian astronomer and asteroid explorer.
He works as a research assistant in the Department of Physics and Astronomy at the University of Victoria in British Columbia .
Between 1987 and 2007 he discovered a total of 37 asteroids, one of them together with his colleague PB Stetson .
In addition, together with Gin Zhu , he discovered comet C / 1997 L1 (Zhu-Balam) on June 3, 1997 .
The asteroid (3749) Balam was named after him.
