David Franke (* 1980 in Freiberg ) is a German organist . Since 2018 he has been professor for organ and organ improvisation and head of the Institute for Church Music at the Freiburg University of Music .

Career

David Franke studied church music , organ and organ improvisation in Stuttgart and Berlin; In 2004 he was a foreign scholar at the Royal Danish Academy of Music in Copenhagen. He has won prizes at national and international organ competitions, such as the Grand Prix de Chartres and the International Organ Improvisation Competition in Haarlem. From 2009 to 2018 he taught as a full-time lecturer at the State University for Music and Performing Arts Stuttgart . In 2018 he accepted a professorship for organ and organ improvisation at the Freiburg University of Music . He is a regular lecturer in organ and organ improvisation master classes.

His concert activities have taken him at home and abroad, for example to the cathedrals of Chartres, Orléans, Bourges, Strasbourg, Laon, Mariinski Theater St. Petersburg, the Bergamo International Organ Festival, ORF Funkhaus Vienna, St. Bavo Haarlem, Philharmonie Lodz , Grossmünster Zurich, Aarhus Cathedral , International Organ Week Nuremberg, European Music Festival Stuttgart, Bach Festival Leipzig, Thomaskirche Leipzig, Gewandhaus Leipzig, Konzerthaus Berlin, Berlin Cathedral, Frauenkirche Dresden, Cologne Cathedral, Philharmonie Essen. He is also involved in radio and CD recordings.

From 2008 to 2018 Franke was organist at St. Wenzel in Naumburg and thus successor to Irene Greulich . Since 2008 until today he has also been the artistic director of the “Internationaler Orgelsommer Naumburg” and “Hildebrandt Days” concert series organized by the city of Naumburg, which take place on the Hildebrandt organ of St. Wenzel and on other instruments.
