David Hestenes

David Orlin Hestenes (* 1933 ) is an American physicist.

Hestenes received his doctorate from the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA) in 1963 and was a professor at Arizona State University for 30 years , where he is now retired.

Hestenes is known for his program of geometric algebra ( Clifford algebra ), with which he wants to popularize a reformulation of the representation of theoretical physics.

From 1976 to 1979 he was Associate Editor of the American Journal of Physics. In 1995 he became a Fellow of the American Physical Society . In 2002 he received the Oersted Medal .

He is the son of Magnus Hestenes .
