David Langheinrich

David Langheinrich (born September 17, 1978 in Syrau ; † April 29, 2006 in Gospersgrün near Zwickau ) was a German rally driver .

Career

David Langheinrich achieved the best overall time at the Vogtland rally in 2004 with an almost 20-year-old Trabant and outclassed more powerful vehicles of the competition. He began his career in 1997 with a Trabant 601 in the so-called AvD Trabant Trophy . In the first year he won the overall youth championship. In 2001 the change to a Trabant 1.1 (nickname: "the green one") took place. Thanks to his spectacular driving style and his loyalty to the Trabant, Langheinrich was not only one of the most popular national rally drivers in eastern Germany. David's father, Uwe Langheinrich, is the organizer of the 25th Vogtland rallye with special stages around Plauen .

On April 29, 2006, David Langheinrich had a fatal accident at the 40th AvD Saxony Rally near Zwickau when his Group H Trabant crashed its roof against a tree at the end of the second special stage. His copilot Oliver Bleich, who had only joined the team in 2005, died with him.
