David Makes Man is an American television series created by Tarell Alvin McCraney . The ten episodes of the first season are to be shown from August 14, 2019 on OWN .
action
14-year-old African American David is a child prodigy. He lives on a residential project in Florida and faces the death of his best friend. He is taken out of school and placed in a class at another school that is mostly attended by whites. Now David leads a double life. On the one hand he has to survive on the street in his residential area where he grew up, on the other hand he does not want to block this access to the education system, which could offer him a way out of his previous life as a socially disadvantaged.

Emergence
As in the movie Moonlight , the author Tarell Alvin McCraney set the story in an Afro-American housing project. The first of its kind in the southern United States was the black housing project on Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard in Liberty City, Miami in 1937. Even David Makes It relies as Moonlight on McCraneys experience when he grew up with a single mother in a world that offered him little support.
The title role of David was cast with Akili McDowell . The young actor was born in San Francisco in 2002.

A first performance is planned at the Outfest in July 2019 . On August 14, 2019, the pilot episode David's Sky will be shown on OWN and the other nine episodes in late summer and autumn.
