David Mark

David Alechenu Bonaventure Mark (born April 1948 in Zungeru , today in the state of Niger , Nigeria ) is a Nigerian politician .

biography

After attending school, Mark, who comes from the Idoma people , studied telecommunications at the College of Military Engineering and the Military College for Telecommunications and graduated with a Bachelor of Science (B.Sc.Telecomm.). He then worked as an officer in the Nigerian armed forces and later as a businessman and entrepreneur.

His political career began in January 1984 as the governor of the state of Niger. He held this office until 1986.

In 1991 he was elected Senator for the first time and has been a member of the Senate (Senate of Nigeria) ever since . In 2003 and 2007 he was re-elected as a representative of the People's Democratic Party (PDP) in the constituency of Benue South in the southern region of Benue state . In 2003 he also became a member of the Parliamentary Assembly of the West African Economic Community (ECOWAS) . As a senator, he mainly dealt with questions of foreign policy and national security .

From 2007 to 2015, Mark succeeded Ken Nnamani as President of the Senate.
