Life

David was the first son of King Robert II from his second marriage to Euphemia de Ross . When his father decided in 1373 to confirm the children from the controversial first marriage in line to the throne and to exclude the children from the second marriage from this, he was not yet of legal age.

On March 27, 1371, one day after his father's coronation, he was raised to Earl Palatine of Stratherne , together with the delivery of the deed of foundation for the Barony of Urquhart . The transfer of the castle of Braal took place on March 21, 1374 (or 1375), between this date and December 28, 1377 he was also made Earl of Caithness . A document dated February 1381 (or 1382) guaranteed him and an escort of fourty horses (40 mounted) safe conduct to England .

From his marriage, with a daughter of Sir Alexander Lindsay of Glenesk and thus sister of David Lindsay, 1st Earl of Crawford, there was a daughter Euphemia , who took over his title.
