The Ottoman satirical magazine Davul ( Ottoman داوول İA Davul , German 'drum' ) was published in 1908 and 1909 in a total of 24 issues a week in Istanbul . The satirical sheet was published by Hasan Vasıf (1889–1944), an Ottoman politician and doctor. What was striking about this magazine were the numerous satirical images and caricatures that deal with Ottoman and European politics of the time. In their humorous articles, the authors criticize Abdülhamid II , the whole of Ottoman politics and the European way of life. In addition, excerpts from the French magazine Fantaisie were published in French in some editions .
