De La Savane is a subway station in Montreal . It is located in the Arrondissement of Côte-des-Neiges-Notre-Dame-de-Grâce at the intersection of Rue de la Savane and Boulevard Décarie. Trains on orange line 2 run here . In 2006, 700,714 passengers used the station, which is the last place among the 68 stations on Metro Montreal . The low value results from the location in an industrial park with a low density.

Building

Entrance pavilion

The station designed by Guy de Varennes and Almas Mathieu was created in the form of a tunnel station . The middle part comprises a high, spacious hall with the distribution level . The walls, made of rough concrete, were designed at various angles and are illuminated by hemispherical light fixtures in irregular patterns. This creates a futuristic, almost surreal impression. The entrance pavilion appears with his triangular glass and concrete surfaces such as a crystal formation.

The platform level with two side platforms is 19.4 meters deep . The distances to the neighboring stations, measured from station end to station start, are 1,281.69 meters to Du Collège and 786.70 meters to Namur . There are connections to a bus line and four night bus lines of the Société de transport de Montréal .

art

Calcite

The sculpture Calcite by Maurice Lemieux hangs from the ceiling of the central hall . The 4.2 m high, 5 m long and 4 m wide work consists of polished chrome steel tips that are put together in such a way that they appear like a kind of crystal. It breaks the daylight that falls in from above through a light shaft into irregular patterns. The two architects also took part in the artistic design. They clad the walls in the entrance area and on the distribution level with panels made of corrugated concrete, which are put together in irregular zigzag patterns.

history

The station opened on January 9, 1984, along with the Plamondon –Du Collège section of the orange line. Name giver is the Rue de la Savane. This road has existed since at least 1778 and once passed through a swamp ( savane is a swamp used in Quebec French ).
