from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

De Ploeg (Eng. The Plow ) is an artists' association founded in Groningen in 1918 and still in existence today. The group was founded by Jan Wiegers , George Marten , Jan Altink , Johan Dijkstra and others. The main goal of the group was to create more opportunities for exhibitions and artistic collaboration in Groningen. Through readings, exhibitions and writings, artists and the public were informed about new developments in art. The name comes from Jan Altink, who was of the opinion that a large area of modern art still had to be reclaimed in Groningen . Anyone who seriously wanted to deal with art could become a member, there was no content-related program. The most important phase of the group was during the 1920s, when international expressionist movements were implemented in the group .
