The De Soto National Forest is a National Forest , the southern part of the US state of Mississippi is located. The forest covers an area of ​​1532 km², of which 190 km² are designated as wilderness . These are the Leaf River Wilderness with 170 km² and the Black Creek Wilderness with 20 km². The Leaf River flows at its border and is home to the rare yellow-spotted mute turtle .

The De Soto National Forest stretches between Hattiesburg in the north and Gulfport in the south on the Gulf of Mexico .
