The Leaf River is an approximately 290 km long river in the south of the US state Mississippi .
Together with the Chickasawhay River, it is one of the major tributaries of the Pascagoula River , which flows into the Gulf of Mexico . It is historically significant as part of the trade passed through it at a time when the road and rail network in this part of the United States was not well developed. It is also home to some rare species such as the yellow spotted mute turtle .

The river has its source in the Bienville National Forest in southwest Scott County , Mississippi. It first flows south through Smith , Covington , Jones, and Forrest Counties . There it flows together with the Bouie River . It flows on through Perry County and Greene Counties , where it runs on the edge of the De Soto National Forest and then joins the Chickasawhay River to merge into the Pascagoula River.
