The Chickasawhay River is an approximately 340 km long river that flows through the US state of Mississippi .
Together with the Leaf River, it is the main tributary of the Pascagoula River , which arises from these two tributaries. The tributaries of the Chickasawhay drain part of western Alabama. Thanks to the subtropical climate in this region, the Chickasawhay River is home to fauna and flora that are unusual for the United States. These include the yellow-blotched map turtle , a rare turtle species of the genus Map turtles .
course
The Chickasawhay River arises near the Mississippi town of Enterprise from the confluence of the Chunky River and Okatibbee Creek in Clarke County. The river flows from there through Wayne and Green Counties. In George County , the river merges with the Leaf River, creating the Pascagoula River.
