De La Guarda

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

De La Guarda is the name of a theater performance from Argentina that has been staged in various locations around the world since 1994.

The subtitle theater that falls from the sky already refers to the main element of the 70-minute show. It is a mixture of dance, acrobatics and theater, accompanied by music of different styles between rock , Latin American folklore and techno . The audience stands in a darkened room and the performance takes place mainly above the heads of the audience. As a result, the elements used - water, steam, fog and fire - can be felt "up close". All senses should be opened to the viewer .

The concept of De La Guarda was developed in the early 1990s by an independent theater group from Buenos Aires . The main idea providers were the actors and dramaturges Pichon Baldinu and Diqui James and the composer Gaby Kerpel. The show made several guest appearances in New York and London , but also in Australia and Brazil . To this end, actors from the host countries are also repeatedly won over.

For the German public, the performances took place from December 2002 to March 2003 in a no longer used production hall for power plant generators by Bergmann-Borsig in Berlin-Wilhelmsruh . More than 15 m high scaffolding was built into the already empty hall, from which the artists performed, mainly swinging on ropes.
