Deanston is a whiskey distillery in Deanston , Stirling , Scotland .

history

Deanston was 1965 by Deanston Distillery Co. Ltd. founded. The Deanston Mill , a cotton mill built by architect Richard Arkwright in 1785, was converted. Whiskey production began in 1966 and in 1971 the first single malt whiskey was launched under the name Old Bannockburn . In 1972 the distillery was taken over by Invergordon Distillers , who in 1974 bottled the first single malt under the name Deanston . In 1982 the distillery was closed. Burn Stewart Distillers of Glasgow bought Deanston 1990 for 2.1 million pounds and began again in 1991 with production. In 1999, C. L. Financial bought 18% of the shares in Burn Stewart and in 2002 the remainder.

Deanston docks the Teith water a few miles from the distillery. This dam and a turbine ensure that Deanston produces its own electricity.

production

The water of the distillery, which belongs to the southern Highlands region, comes from the Teith. The malt comes from foreign malt houses. The distillery has a mash tun (10.5 tons) made of stainless steel and eight fermentation vats (60,000 l each). Distillation takes place in two wash stills (10,000 l each) and two spirit stills (8500 l each), which are heated by steam spirals.

Bottlings

About 15% of Deanston's production comes as a single malt. The main markets are the USA, the United Kingdom, France, the Netherlands and Japan. The rest is intended for blends and malt liqueur (Wallach Single Malt Liqueur and Drumgray Highland Cream Liqueur).

There is a 12-year-old and the Virgin Oak in terms of original bottlings. A 6-year-old single malt is also bottled for the French market. In 2003 a 35-year-old from 1967 was also launched.
