Debra O'Connor
Deborah "Debra" O'Connor (born July 4, 1966 in Kingston ) is a badminton player from Trinidad and Tobago .
Career
Debra O'Connor grew up in Jamaica, her father's country of origin, where she first saw the game of badminton. In 1977 the family moved to their mother's homeland, Trinidad and Tobago . Debra O'Connor's first major international sporting success was at the CAREBACO championships . There she collected a total of 22 titles from 1983 to 1996. At the Central American and Caribbean Games in 1990, she won silver in women's singles, silver in doubles with Virginia Chariandy and bronze with Ronald Clarke . In 1996 she was at the US Open in the quarterfinals of the women's singles and in the second round of the doubles, where she started with Sabrina Cassie .
At the 1996 Summer Olympics , O'Connor took part in the individual badminton tournament . In the first round she lost there against Denyse Julien from Canada with 0-2 sets. She has been active in Jamaica since 2009, where she won a double title with Nigella Saunders .
