December, 1963 (Oh, What a Night) is a 1975 Four Seasons song written by Bob Gaudio and Judy Parker. It appeared on the album Who Loves You .

history

Originally, the text was about the lifting of Prohibition in the United States and was therefore called December 5th, 1933 , but the text had to be changed at the insistence of Frankie Valli and Parker. Therefore it is called December, 1963 (Oh, What a Night) and is about the nostalgic memory of an affair between a young man and a woman.

The song is an up-tempo, piano-played dance rock song that features an easily recognizable drum rhythm and piano riff. It was composed in 4/4 time and the key of D flat major. Most parts of the song are sung by drummer Gerry Polci, Frankie Valli can be heard in the Bridges and in the background vocals.

It was released on December 26, 1975. The disco and dance rock song topped the charts in the United States, Great Britain and Canada .
