Deckhand is the name given to an area of activity on board yachts . Duties include scrubbing the deck, helping out in the kitchen, serving food, or lending a hand with berthing maneuvers.

Under the designation Deckhand , an internationally recognized seafaring certificate is awarded in Germany, to which a private law training with a degree based on the English examination regulations of the "Royal Yachting Association" (RYA) and the "Maritime Coastguard Agency" (MCA) leads. Due to the specialization in large yachts, the "deckhand" training has different priorities than training to become a sailor or boatswain . Only a few educational institutions in Germany offer the i. d. Usually privately financed training.
