Proponent
The proponent (from Latin proponere : submit, propose, out of date and Austrian for applicant ) is the designation for a person from whom something starts or is initiated.
Dialogic logic
In dialogical logic and in the context of dialogues, the proponent describes the partner in a dialog who opens it and makes an assertion. His counterpart is called the opponent .
The dialogue is basically as follows: The proponent makes an assertion. The opponent attacks the assertion made, the proponent defends it. If the proponent can successfully defend his claim, then he is the winner, otherwise he is the opponent.
Applicant in Austria
In Austria, the applicant when founding an association is called proponent. In a broader sense, proponent is a person from whom something proceeds.
Use in literature
The writer Christoph Ransmayr speaks of proponents in his novels and stories. The term also appears in Magellan by Stefan Zweig .
