Defense Grid: The Awakening is a tower defense - strategy game from the developer studio Hidden Path for Microsoft Windows , Mac OS X and Xbox 360 . It was released on December 8, 2008 and is distributed by Aspyr Media .

Since June 2010 the manufacturer has made eight additional maps available as downloadable content under the title Defense Grid: Resurgence .

Gameplay

In 20 missions, the player has to protect energy cores (so-called "cores") from hostile aliens who try to steal them in large numbers and in several successive "waves". At least one core must remain on the map to complete the mission successfully. The upper edge of the screen provides information about how many waves are still to follow and which of the 15 enemy types they contain.

Using "credits" (the means of payment in the game) the player can build defense towers and thus keep the aliens - who cannot shoot back - away. The player receives credits for shot down aliens, which can be invested in new defenses or in the expansion of existing defenses. The player receives interest on the balance of the unspent credits, the higher the interest, the more cores are in their place. There are a total of ten different towers, each with two further expansion levels, which are not yet available at the beginning of the game, but are only unlocked for higher missions. In addition, an orbital laser is also available in higher missions, which has enormous explosive power and takes a long time to recharge.
