Dike cables
A dike cable (also dike cables , dike deposit or Deichschefft ) is a historical measure of a dike section . The smallest unit of a dike cable was the rod with 4.66 m.
meaning
The dike cable has been known in the Hitzacker office since at least 1698 . Depending on the size of the property, landowners had to maintain a section of the dike. Dikes on common areas or stray pieces were all dike liable transferred. The dike sections assigned in each case were noted in the dike roll or in the dyke cadastre. The dike was divided into sections, which were marked on the inner edge first by wooden posts and later by dike cable stones. If a landowner was unable to maintain his maintenance obligation, the right to spade was used as a penalty for a dike for a long time .
Today the dyke associations are responsible for maintaining the dykes , which is why many dyke cable stones were removed and returned to the farms . In Lower Saxony, the cable industry was abolished in 1963 with the Lower Saxony Dyke Act (NDG) and the dyke obligation was transferred to all residents of the protected area.
