Dekuman front

As Dekumanfront , Decumanfront or Dekumanseite in is archeology facing away from the enemy side of a Roman military camp called.

Usually this was one of the two narrow sides of a fort, at which the rear gate, the Porta decumana with the Via decumana leading to the Principia, was located. The term Dekumanfront was coined very early, at the beginning of scientific research in the 19th century. Opposite the decuman front, on the narrow side of a fort that was mostly facing the enemy, was the praetorial front .
