The European Union delegation for Switzerland and the Principality of Liechtenstein is the representation of the European Union in Switzerland and the Principality of Liechtenstein . The delegation was opened in Bern on April 3, 2007 by EU Foreign Commissioner Benita Ferrero-Waldner , Swiss Federal President Micheline Calmy-Rey and Liechtenstein Foreign Minister Rita Kieber-Beck .
Head of the delegation Michael Reiterer presented his credentials as the first ambassador of the European Commission to Federal President Micheline Calmy-Rey on January 11, 2007 , and to Alois von und zu Liechtenstein on March 23, 2007 . The task of the delegation is to act as a communication channel between Switzerland, Liechtenstein and the European Union to maintain and deepen the extensive relations.
From 2012 to August 2016, Richard Jones was the European Union's ambassador for Switzerland and the Principality of Liechtenstein. He was followed by Michael Matthiessen in September 2016 .
