The Della Falls is a waterfall located in Strathcona Provincial Park on Vancouver Iceland and is considered one of the highest waterfalls in Canada.

location

Della Falls are located 60 km (37 mi) from the city of Port Alberni , British Columbia in Strathcona Provincial Park.

The only way to get to Della Falls other than by helicopter is to first cross the entire Great Central Lake by boat. The only road that leads to the lake is on the opposite side of Strathcona Park. After driving 35 km (21 mi) on the lake, you come to a pier that marks the beginning of the park and a campsite that can be used as a base camp before you start the 15 km (9 mi) ascent to the plateau des Waterfalls. Other campsites exist along the way and near the waterfall. The hiking route, a section of which follows an old railway line, takes about seven hours and is classified as a moderately difficult route.

discovery

In 1899, geologist and trapper Joe Drinkwater discovered Della Falls and named it after his wife. Drinkwater also built a 10 mi (16 km) hiking trail to the falls across Drinkwater Creek . Traces of his work as a gold digger, including a cable car he built, can still be seen near the falls.

height

With a measured drop of 440 meters (1,443 ft), it is considered by many to be the tallest waterfall in Canada, although some other waterfalls in British Columbia exceed 600 meters (1969 ft), such as Alfred Creek Falls , Deserted River Falls , Francis Falls and Gold Creek Falls ; however, these dimensions do not represent the vertical height, so they cannot be called the tallest.
