Demeter ( English: Detection of Electro-Magnetic Emissions Transmitted from Earthquake Regions , German: Detection of electromagnetic emissions sent from earthquake regions ) is a French satellite . It was launched on June 29, 2004 in Baikonur with a Dnepr launcher. It was operated by CNES and was used to research seismic activities on Earth. Demeter was the first satellite based on the Myriad satellite bus .

Demeter sent the last scientific data on December 7th, 2010. In the following weeks, 15 orbit maneuvers emptied the tanks and thereby lowered the orbit by 1.4 km. The satellite was finally switched off on March 17, 2011.
