After the war he studied the physiological processes involved in playing the violin and cello. He became one of the most important violin teachers of the first half of the 20th century, developed an ergonomic method of string playing, which he called The Science of Expressive Technique , advised numerous orchestral violinists and cellists who had problems playing their instruments, and wrote several textbooks for violinists and violists.
