Democratic Voice of Burma

The Democratic Voice of Burma (DVB; German: Democratic voice of Burma ) is a non-profit organization in the field of mass media that are in Oslo , Norway situated. Operated by Burmese immigrants, radio and television broadcasts are broadcast with the aim of providing uncensored news and information about Myanmar (Burma), the ruling military regime and its political opposition .

Transfers

DVB has been broadcasting its radio program to Myanmar since July 1992. According to DVB, these transmissions reach millions of listeners. Since March 2010, the organization has been broadcasting two hours of programming daily via shortwave radio from 06:00 to 07:00 local time (23:30 to 00:30 UTC ) on the frequency 9490 kHz and from 21:00 to 22:00 local time (14 : 30 to 15:30 UTC) on 15480 kHz and 17625 kHz.

On May 28, 2005, DVB expanded its program and started broadcasting television via satellite , which can be received in Myanmar. The organization hopes to reach tens of millions of viewers in Myanmar. The television channel is the first free and independent channel in the Burmese language and is partly funded by non-governmental organizations such as Free Voice ( Netherlands ), National Endowment for Democracy ( USA ) and Fritt Ord (Norway).

mission

DVB has set itself four main goals:

  • providing accurate and impartial news to the people of Myanmar
  • promoting understanding and collaboration between the various ethnic and religious groups in Myanmar
  • the support and strengthening of independent public opinion and the facilitation of social and political debate
  • conveying democratic ideals and human rights to the people of Myanmar
