The Democratic Party ( Partai Demokrat , PD) is a political party in Indonesia . It was founded on September 9, 2001 . Its political orientation is based on the pancasila , i.e. the five principles of the Indonesian constitution.
In the 2004 parliamentary elections, the PD received 7.5% of the vote and 57 out of 550 seats.
In the first direct election of the president in 2004, the PD Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono nominated . He received the most votes in the first ballot and won the runoff election with 69% of the votes against the incumbent Megawati Sukarnoputri from the PDI-P .
After the party's chairman, Anas Urbaningrum , resigned in February 2013 on allegations of corruption, Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono also became chairman of the party.
