The party's motto is freedom and democracy for the Libyan people . Its aim is to control the United Nations over Libya and to establish a truth and reconciliation commission for Libya.
The Democratic Party is currently working with many think tanks such as the Madrid Club, the Gorbachev Foundation and the Westminster Foundation for Democracy to promote its cause.
Political ideology
The party supports liberal-democratic ideals, according to the party program it is requested:
- The support of the National Transitional Council only as far as necessary to enable the transition to democracy; however, the legal legitimacy of the transitional council is denied.
- The transition to democracy in Libya should be monitored by a United Nations commission , similar to the Adriaan Peelt commission after the end of World War II , which monitored Libya's independence.
- Creation of UN peacekeeping forces .
- The establishment of a truth and reconciliation commission similar to that in South Africa .
- The separation of state and religion , with freedom of belief for all and respect for all religions as the best way to defeat radical Islam and Al-Qaeda .
