Denise Grahl

Denise Grahl (born May 4, 1993 in Schwerin ) is a German disabled athlete .

Career

Denise Grahl comes from Schwerin. The nurse and geriatric nurse is severely disabled and suffers from metaphyseal chondrodysphasia . Since she wanted to do competitive sports despite her disability, she became a member of the Hansa Schwimm-Verein Rostock e. V. As a sport she chose swimming, a sport that she practiced in freestyle as well as in butterfly and backstroke swimming. Because of her good performance in all three swimming disciplines, she was soon appointed to the German national team for handicapped people and used in international competitions in the S7 / SB7 / SM7 performance class, namely at the European and World Championships and the 2016 Paralympic Games .

At the European Championships she took part for the first time in 2014 in the disciplines of freestyle over 50 and over 100 m, where she reached 2nd place over 50 m and won a silver medal. She was also successful at the following European Championships in 2016 and 2018: In 2016 she again won two silver medals in the 50 m and 100 m freestyle and another silver medal in the 100 m back. In 2018 she became first in the 50 m freestyle and the 50 m butterfly.

The highlight of their successes was the 2016 Paralympic Summer Games in Rio de Janeiro . At these games, she won a silver medal in her performance class in the freestyle over 50 m.

For winning the silver medal at the Paralympic Summer Games 2016, she was awarded the silver laurel leaf by Federal President Joachim Gauck on November 1, 2016 .
