The monuments and relics Commission ( English Monuments and Relics Commission ) since 1948, the Sierra Leonean conservation authority . According to the Monuments and Relics Ordinance of 1946, the task is to “preserve ancient, historical and natural monuments, relics and objects of archaeological, historical or scientific importance.” The ordinance was amended in 1962 and 1967 and now expressly includes it the maintenance of the National Museum.

The construction of the country's first national gallery and a cultural village should be completed in 2017 [obsolete] .

The commission consists of five commissioners as well as one representative each from the Ministry of Tourism and Culture and the National Museum of Sierra Leone .

No new monuments were declared between 1966 and 2016.
