Monument to the Great October Socialist Revolution
The Monument to the Great October Socialist Revolution ( Ukrainian Монумент Великій Жовтневій соціалістичній революції Monument Velikij Zhovtnewij Socialistichniy Revoljuziji ) was a 1991 dismantled monument in Kiev .
history
The monumental monument was erected on the sixtieth anniversary of the October Revolution , on October 22, 1977, in the city's central square. At the same time, the square was renamed "October Revolution Square".
After Ukraine gained independence on September 12, 1991, the monument was dismantled and the square was renamed Maidan Nezaleschnosti . In 2001 the Ukraine Independence Monument was erected on the same site .
description
The monument was modeled on a rolled flag (height 18.4 m), in front of which stood the 8.9 meter high sculpture of the revolutionary leader Vladimir Ilyich Lenin made of red granite . In front of this stood four bronze sculptures, each 5.25 m high, depicting a worker, a farmer and a sailor, all of whom were armed.
