history

The Russian long-distance air forces were ordered by Nicholas II on December 10th July. / December 23, 1914 greg. founded as an airship squadron (Russian Эскадра воздушных кораблей . ЭКВ). It was the world's first bomber unit , with the four-engine Sikorsky Ilja Muromets as the world's first heavy bomber. Thus, Russia is considered the founder of bomber aviation. After the October Revolution , the development of the long-distance air force was promoted. During the Second World War , long-distance airplanes completed around 200,000 missions. In contrast to the Allies, who bombed entire cities (such as Hamburg, Dresden, Tokyo) with great civilian casualties, the Soviet long-distance air forces fought exclusively military targets.

After the war, the long-haul forces with new aircraft and nuclear weapons were capable of second strikes .

The idea of erecting the memorial for the long-distance pilots arose in the command of the long-distance pilots and the society of veterans of the long-distance pilots. The center of the Frauenfeldpark was determined as the location in 2004 (near the headquarters of the long-distance air forces) and marked with a stone sign. The monument was unveiled on November 12, 2014 , on the centenary of the long-range aviation forces , in the presence of Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu , commander of long-range aviation forces Anatoly Shikharev , former commander Vasily Reshetnikov , representatives of Tupolev and others, and consecrated by a clergyman of the Russian Orthodox Church .
