The Dennis Arrow was a chassis for double-decker buses from the British commercial vehicle manufacturer Dennis Specialist Vehicles . The type was built in small numbers from 1996 to 1998. The bus was based on the two-axle Dennis Lance single-decker bus and was initially marketed as a double -decker Dennis Lance . The name Arrow was used by Dennis for a bus back in the 1930s.

background

In 1991 Dennis developed the Lance, a modern chassis that could also be sold in relatively large numbers. Based on this chassis, Dennis developed a two-story variant. However, since the successful Dennis Dominator and its three-axle further development Dennis Dragon were offered in parallel and, from 1997, the Dennis Trident 2, a low-floor chassis for double-decker buses, was available, the number of the Arrow remained limited. In total, only 73 buses were built.

construction

The bus was powered by the Cummins six-cylinder diesel engine 6CT, a turbocharged 8.3 liter engine. According to the state of the art, an automatic transmission from ZF was installed. As with the Lance, the engine was located in the rear. The bus was 10.6 m long.

use

Capital Citybus , a transport company that operated routes in North and East London , was the largest customer. The company procured a total of 54 buses. 15 buses received bodies from Northern Counties , the rest from East Lancashire Coachbuilders with 47/33 and 49/27 seats. After the company went out of business in 1998, buses went to various other operators in the UK.

London & Country procured a total of ten Arrow. The superstructures of the buses came from the East Lancashire Coachbuilders and had 45/35 seats or 45/31 seats in the version as a coach. After just three years, the buses were sold to Arriva Yorkshire , where they were still in service in 2010.

Nottingham City Transport procured four of the buses and three more went to smaller operators.
