history

Arana Maderas, SA was founded in Bilbao in 1955 , from which Grupo Industrial Arana, SA emerged in 1990, the actual core of today's company. In 1992 it took over the manufacturer of the best-selling rice brand in Spain, Hijos de J. Sos Borrás, SA The entire company was renamed Sos Arana Alimentación, SA The group developed into one of the leading rice groups on the Iberian Peninsula by taking over other companies such as the Portuguese Saludaes. At the turn of the millennium, Cuétara, SA, the largest bisqui manufacturer in Spain and Portugal, was taken over, which doubled group sales. In 2001 the Grupo Sos and Cuétara merged to become Sos Cuétara, SA

In the same year, the company entered the olive oil market with the takeover of Koipe, SA (brands Carbonell and Koipesol). In 2003, Sos Cuétara and Koipe merged, which tripled group sales. Also in 2003 they took over American Rice, one of the largest rice brands in the USA. By 2008, several Italian olive oil producers were taken over, including Sasso, Carapelli, Friol and Bertolli (from Unilever ), which made the group the world leader in olive oil.

Due to the takeover of Bertolli, however, the debt increased sharply and the group got into a crisis, so that in 2008 the Cuétara pastry division had to be sold, a capital increase was carried out in 2009 and the entire management was replaced, further capital increases followed at the end of 2010 and the rice division was sold to save the company. On July 15, 2011, the company was renamed deoleo. The restructuring and concentration on the oil business led to a recovery, so that in 2013 the Hojiblanca brand was taken over.

In 2014 the financial investor CVC Capital Partners acquired 30% of the capital shares, thereby becoming the main shareholder and later increasing the share package.
