Birkau depot

The Birkau depot is an archaeological depot from the Early Bronze Age that was discovered in the Birkau district of the Göda municipality ( Bautzen district ).

The hoard was discovered in 1923 while plowing in a clay pot. It had a total weight of about 1300 grams and consisted of an eyelet neck ring , four heavy oval rings with open ends (two lost), nine small open rings with paw ends (three lost), an open cross-ribbed cuff (lost), a decorative disc with two spiked attachments ( Lost), a chain (lost) made of 60 bronze pearls in the shape of a barrel and a double pearl. The find was dated to around 1800–1600 BC. Dated and assigned to the Aunjetitz culture .

The finds are exhibited in the Museum Bautzen . The lost parts were lost in 1945 through looting at the relocation site in Leisnig .
