The farang
The German-language magazine Der Farang , spelled DER FARANG , is operated by Matt Productions Co., Ltd. with headquarters in Pattaya . Der Farang was founded in 1993 by the Swiss Stefan Matter. In 2006 it was taken over by the Swiss couple Bussaba and Martin Rüegsegger. Martin Rüegsegger was also the founder and publicist of the website Thaipage, which was one of the most popular German-speaking Thailand websites from 1999 to 2018.
Farang is the German-language newspaper with the highest circulation in Thailand and is published every 14 days, 26 times a year, as a print and PDF edition. Together with the associated news portal, the publication publishes a wide variety of topics about Thailand, neighboring countries and worldwide events. The website is updated several times a day. The target group are predominantly German-speaking expats, vacationers and residents.
The Farang is available by subscription and at PressReader as well as in bookstores frequented by tourists (Asia Books) and supermarkets in Pattaya, Bangkok , Chiang Mai , Koh Samui , Phuket , Hua Hin . The print version is offered at a retail price of 60 baht and free of charge to advertisers (as of 2019).
