Life

Bas parents come from humble backgrounds. The father trained part-time as a Master of Business Administration and then worked at international institutions. The family could afford to travel, and Ba and her three brothers attended good schools. At nine, Ba guessed her father's computer password, who then asked her to prepare Powerpoint presentations for him. At 16 she built her first website. Ba studied in Toulouse and then worked for a technology consulting company. She helped European companies on the topic of digitization.

When she began to feel empty and to look for some kind of mission, Ba resigned and in 2013 founded a subsidiary of the shopping platform Jumia in the Ivory Coast and then another Jumia offshoot in Lagos, Nigeria . Jumia Nigeria became Africa's largest e-commerce website in terms of market share, employees and revenue. Ba devised a mobile payment service for the “ Amazon of Africa”, which is geared towards the needs of African customers.

Since Ba liked to be an investor herself and wanted to give the rapidly growing African population access to financing options for companies, she quit Jumia and put all her money into the venture capital company Janngo. The word “Janngo” means “tomorrow” in Fulani , the company's offer is primarily aimed at young people and women as well as small and medium-sized companies. Ba introduced the company to the French President Emanuel Macron as well as the Prime and Digital Ministers of the Ivory Coast and in 2018 collected investments a. a. from the Mulliez family .

At the DLD Conference 2019, Ba described Africa as a “continent of possibilities”.
