Der Irrenfreund - a psychiatric monthly for general practitioners was a psychiatric journal . It was published for the first time in 1859 and at that time still contained the title addition “a folk writing on insane and insane institutions, as well as for maintaining mental health”. It was first published by Verlag Heuser ( Neuwied ) and later by Scheurlen-Verlag ( Heilbronn ) until it was discontinued in 1902 .
