The new way

Der Neue Weg was founded as a daily newspaper of the Christian Democratic Union of Germany for the CDU regional association of Saxony-Anhalt on the basis of a license from SMAD . The newspaper appeared from January 1, 1946 to February 28, 1992.

Editor-in-chief was Herbert Kunze-Cornelius from 1946 to 1948, then the journalist Alwin Schaper until 1950 , others were Fred Eismann, Klaus Bigalke and, after the fall of the Wall, the editor responsible for the church page, Michael Dorndorf. The editorial office, typesetting / printing and publishing of this newspaper were located in the then state capital Halle (Saale) . After the dissolution of the states and the founding of the districts of the GDR in 1952, the Der Neue Weg publisher supplied the readership in Halle and Magdeburg as well as in Leipzig , the district town that originally belonged to the state of Saxony and was initially supplied by the Dresden CDU newspaper Die Union . In nearby Leipzig, however, the newspaper appeared with the same cover as in the place of publication, but under the double name Der Neue Weg / Die Union . The state news agency ADN provided the political news in particular until the fall of the Wall in 1989 . Own contributions concerned in particular activities of the CDU in the GDR and communal events. Above all, the reports on cultural events, e.g. B. Theater premieres as well as concerts, advice pages and the service schedule of the local parishes are appreciated by the readers. In the advertisements, the "car market" brought the high proceeds - similar to the central organ of the CDU Neue Zeit . The circulation in 1981 was 36,300 copies.

After reunification, Magdeburg became the new state capital of Saxony-Anhalt, the main editorial office of Der Neue Weg was still in Halle. The advertising market collapsed more and more after the shortage of motor vehicles ended. In addition, the number of readership decreased considerably due to the increasing competition of all print media on the newspaper market and with it the printed and the sold circulation. This ultimately led to the gradual discontinuation of all former CDU newspapers by the new owner, DZV Deutscher Zeitungsverlag GmbH , which belonged to the FAZ publishing group . That also meant the end of the newspaper Der Neue Weg.
