Alwin Schaper

Alwin Schaper (born March 18, 1898 in Badeleben ; † September 24, 1979 there ) was a German politician ( DDP / CDU ) and journalist . He was editor-in-chief of the Neue Zeit newspaper , the central organ of the CDU in the GDR .

Life

Schaper came from a family of craftsmen. He attended elementary and high school . He was a soldier in the First World War , then from 1919 a correspondent for the insurance company “Wilhelma”; he also worked as a journalist. In 1919 he joined the German Democratic Party (DDP) and became head of the youth department of the DDP district leadership in the province of Saxony . In 1925 he moved to Berlin and worked there on the editorial staff of the Magdeburgische Zeitung . From 1934 to 1945 he worked in the German news office . From 1930 to 1933 he was a member of the German State Party.

In 1945 Schaper joined the CDU. From 1945 to 1947 he was editor, then until 1950 editor-in-chief of the CDU state organ of Saxony-Anhalt Der Neue Weg and from December 1950 to July 1961 editor-in-chief of the central organ of the CDU Neue Zeit (successor to Martin Preikschar).

From 1950 to 1952 he was a member of the state parliament of Saxony-Anhalt . From 1951 to October 1964 he was a member of the main board of the CDU. From 1956 he was a member of the Presidium of the Central Board of the Association of the German Press .

After his retirement in 1961, Schaper was still active as a researcher for the CDU. Schaper died in Badeleben, his birthplace.
