Magdeburg newspaper
The Magdeburgische Zeitung was the oldest German-language newspaper until 1944 ; it appeared continuously in Magdeburg from 1664 to 1944 . It was published by the publishing house of the Fabersche Buchdruckerei in Magdeburg and was oriented towards national liberalism in imperial Germany. On Mondays the newspaper contained the "papers for trade, industry and social life" as a supplement. Its distribution areas were the provinces of Saxony, Anhalt, Thuringia and Braunschweig. At first it was called "Weekly Newspapers". It took on its current title in the first half of the 18th century. In the Weimar Republic the Magdeburgische Zeitung was created by Robert Faber, Gustav Faber and Anton Kirchrath published. Under the later publisher Henning Faber, it was closely related to the German People's Party . On September 1, 1944, it was merged with the Nazi newspaper “Der Mitteldeutsche - Neues Magdeburger Tageblatt”. After the end of World War II Fritz Faber, a descendant tried the founder of the newspaper from the 17th century (since the 18th century belonged to the newspaper of the Faber family), a relaunch of the newspaper in Speyer , a kind of "exile sheet" of DDR - Refugees. However, this also had to cease publication in 1956.
From German reunification until the end of 2005, the newspaper Volksstimme , which had belonged to the SPD before 1933 and to the SED from 1946 to 1990 and has been owned by the Bauer publishing group since 1990 , had the subtitle “Magdeburgische Zeitung”.
