The printer Abraham Lichtenthaler founds an office in Sulzbach , in which u. a. a number of writings by Jewish authors and works in Hebrew script will be published.

Periodicals
- The Gazzetta di Mantova , a daily newspaper for the city and province of Mantua , is founded. The newspaper is considered one of the oldest still existing daily newspapers in the world.
- The Magdeburgische Zeitung was owned by the Faber family until 1939 . It appeared uninterrupted from 1664 to 1944, when it was merged with the Nazi newspaper “Der Mitteldeutsche - Neues Magdeburger Tageblatt”.
Scientific works, essays
- The first authorized edition of François de La Rochefoucauld's maxims and reflections , which was predated to 1665, appears in 1664 after an incorrect pirated print based on a collection of his aphorisms made by La Rochefoucauld that circulated among his friends had already been published in the Netherlands in 1663 .
- Fourteen years after his death, René Descartes ' first comprehensive work is published under the title Le Monde (The World). The book, printed by Michel Bobin and Nicolas LeGras in Paris, contains essays Traité de l`homme and Traité de la lumière ou le monde under the joint title Le Monde Descartes . Descartes had already largely completed the work in 1633 when he learned of Galileo's condemnation for advocating the heliocentric world system. Thereupon he decided not to publish it. The text, which is not completely preserved, comes from the estate.
