The Pennäler Schnitzelbank
The schoolboy Schnitzelbank (or "Black flock") is a secret society and carnival tradition in Ellwangen (Jagst) , in which the in Dominos wrapped "Black Schar" the offenses and weaknesses of local prominence in verse denounces.

The “Schwarze Schar” was founded in 1851 by students from the Peutinger Gymnasium and is Ellwangen's oldest carnival association. The foundation is related to the revolutionary period in 1848 .

A verse list typically contains around 50 verses, each with 4 lines. These are sung in the melody of the song Auf de Schwäbsche Eisebahne , with the last two lines repeated under the beat of the drums and sung by the entire restaurant and audience. In the following verses, local celebrities such as politicians, clergy, innkeepers, lawyers, doctors, teachers, artists and Ellwang originals often have to endure piquant verses that deal with true stories , even if they are sometimes exaggerated by satirical representation last year. The Silentium
The special attraction of the Pennäler Schnitzelbank lies in the fact that nobody in Ellwangen knows the members of the "Black Crowd" and those involved have to commit themselves to the strictest silence, the so-called "Silentium". Accordingly, there are numerous myths surrounding the inclusion criteria. One of them is that only male graduates of the Peutinger Gymnasium who have completed the old-language train of the school will be accepted.
In order to protect their identity, the members wear Latin or Latin-looking, sometimes humorous names, with which they address each other on the evening of Shrove Tuesday.
Order of the "Golden Pig"
For the 100th anniversary of the Pennäler Schnitzelbank, the Order of the Golden Pig was awarded for the first time in 1951 . This honors outstanding personalities from the Ellwang Carnival. Since a person is not found every year who would be worthy of the order , the award takes place at irregular intervals. The gold medal hangs on a blue, red and gold ribbon, the colors of the Pennäler Schnitzelbank, and obliges the honored to wear it during the Ellwang Carnival. Dance lesson band award
The awarding of the dance lesson tape to the Schnitzelbank has been a tradition since 1907 and represents a further highlight on the evening of Shrove Sunday. Nowadays, the dance lesson, a high school student from Ellwang selected by the secret society, carries a self-penned poem about the "black crowd" in the Gasthaus Roter Oxen in front. Then she attaches a self-designed ribbon to the bell tree of the Schnitzelbank. The head of the "black crowd" then thanks the lady with a kiss and presents and the members kneel and sing - as a sign of appreciation - the fifth verse of the song Gaudeamus igitur , which is a hymn of praise to the world of women.
