The horse boy

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

In the book The Horse Boy: The Healing of My Son and the documentary " The Horse Boy ", the American author Rupert Isaacson describes how his son Rowan, who had a form of autism (Pervasive Development Disorder - Not Otherwise Specified - PDD [NOS]), during In his opinion, during a stay in Mongolia he was cured or his illness was at least substantially alleviated.

prehistory

Rupert Isaacson works professionally for endangered peoples, among whom shamanism is still common today. This fact motivated the author to take his sick son to an encounter with shamans of the San , which he hoped would have a positive effect on his son. Isaacson had also observed when he lived in Texas that his son always behaved more naturally after he was given the opportunity to ride the neighboring horse, Betsy . Based on these two considerations, Isaacson decided to travel with his wife and son to a place where both horses and shamans could be found at the same time, so they decided to go to Mongolia .

The trip

Arrived in Mongolia, the Isaacson went to the north of Mörön nearby forests to live there and reindeer breeding nomads . They covered the majority of this journey on horseback and were accompanied by a Mongolian tour operator and his son. This boy was about the age of Rowan , who, to the amazement of his father, made friends with this Mongolian boy for the first time and began to play with him like a normal child.

The near-natural environment, as well as a ritual that had taken place on a mountain near the capital Ulan Bator with nine shamans, brought about an initial improvement for his sick son, according to Rupert Isaacson.

Ghoste , a shaman among the reindeer herders, then undertook a so-called " shamanic journey " after an initial ceremony in the absence of the Isaacson family and performed a healing ritual with the family the following evening. The Isaacsons left the next morning. Within the next 24 hours, Rowan was suddenly able for the first time to use a toilet to defecate on time, while he had otherwise regularly defecated. Within three days, the child's strong tantrums, from which the parents had previously suffered greatly, also disappeared.
