The first teacher ( Первый учитель ) is a powder by Tschingis Aitmatow from 1962. The story is about a love that has never been expressed, of despair, pain and confidence.

Altynai Sulaymanova, now a PhD in philosophy with a professorship at a university, grew up in the village of Kurkurëu. After years of absence, she returns to her homeland. There she is received as a guest of honor at the opening of a new school. When she almost runs into Düischen by chance, she leaves in a hurry. To explain this incident, she decides to pass on the story of her youth and her first great love to her compatriots.

Its story begins in 1924; she is 14 years old at this point. Altynai growing at their aunt and her uncle because her parents are deceased. Her life is determined by the work on the farm and the harassment of her aunt and uncle. It changed from the moment a man named Düischen built the village's first school on behalf of the Soviet power and against the will of the villagers. In addition to reading and writing, the politicization of students in the sense of socialism is an important part of the lesson.

Altynai is the oldest student, learns quickly, and Düischen soon notices her skill. But her aunt and uncle do not believe in studying or school and one day they decide to marry them off to an aunt's nephew. Düischen wants to save her from that, but he fails. Altynai went through a terrible time as the second wife of the "red-faced" man. She is raped. On the third night she tries to escape, but fails.

The next morning, Düischen appears with two militiamen who arrest the "red-faced man" and free Altynai. She is given the opportunity to leave her home village, leave all the terrible events behind and learn in the city.

Düischen, who went to war , and Altynai keep in touch by letters for several years. When Altynai confesses her love for him, however, he does not answer her, and contact is completely broken off.

After telling her story, Altynai decides to go back to Kurkurëu and propose to name the new boarding school “Düischen's School” in memory of the village's first teacher and communist.

In 1963, Tschingis Aitmatow received the Lenin Prize for his stories Djamila , Das Kamelauge , Du mein Pappel im Red Headscarf and The First Teacher .
