The white spot was a program-complementary television show that was broadcast on German television from 1976 to 1983 . The idea for this broadcast format was a decision by the directors on 9/10. December 1975 preceded, which provided that from 1976 airtime was reserved in the program schedule for a documentary that offered the viewer in-depth background information on a current topic, which, however, was not determined in time for the television program guides to announce it.
In contrast to the ARD focal point , which at the time dealt with topics for which there was not enough airtime for a contribution in one of the ARD's political magazines, the focus at the White Fleck was on topics that determined the current reporting in the news programs. In the late 1980s, the original broadcasting concept of the Weisse Fleck went up in the focal point in a different broadcast format as a special broadcast on extraordinary daily events.
The white spot initially ran on Monday at 10:45 p.m., from 1980 onwards it was given a new slot on Wednesday at the same time following the day's topics .
