The Derby Refinery (English: Derby Refinery ) of Coastal Corporation was an American refinery in Wichita , Kansas . It was shut down in 1993 due to unprofitability.

history

The refinery was built in 1920 by the Derby Oil Company . From 1955 to 1973 the Colorado Interstate Gas Company owned the refinery. From 1973 until its closure in 1993, the refinery was part of the Coastal Corporation. In 1993 production at the coastal refineries in Derby and El Dorado was halted and the refineries mothballed. In 2005, the demolition of the refinery, which had been idle for years, was announced, and the contaminated site was to be remedied by the 21st Street Revitalization Program .

Technical specifications

There was a connection to the railway network. North of the center, is one of the Union Pacific Railroad and the Wichita Terminal Association unused rail yard ( yard ).

US Highway 81 runs alongside the site of the former refinery on the east side .
