The Deschan-Palais ( Romanian Palatul Dejan or Palatul Deschan ), also called Haus Scherter , is a listed building in the western Romanian city of Timișoara .

description

The building is located on Bulevardul Revoluției din 1989 , opposite the Magazinul Bega shopping center , and is designed in a classicist style . The columns on the outer facade of the two-story southern wing correspond to the Corinthian order . The single-storey north wing frames a rectangular inner courtyard with arcades on the ground floor and on the first floor. The inner courtyard is now planted with bushes and shrubs.

history

The patrician palace was built in 1735 by the de Jean family, originally from France, who received a title of nobility in 1744 and on this occasion changed their name to Deschan de Hansen . Johann Anton Deschan von Hansen was an advisor to the local administration at the time.

Between 1802 and 1841 the southern wing was renovated and partially rebuilt, the northern wing was retained in its original form. A casino was operated here between 1830 and 1848 . At times the inner courtyard also served as a market and trading center.

In 2005 the building was completely renovated while preserving the old structure, while its interior was converted into a modern office building.
